So true. Sometimes we expect things out of people without knowing their abilities and capabilities and when our expectations are not met we end up disappointed in them.
One of my wise friends once told me, 'Expect nothing, and you'll never be disappointed'. I know how right she is, but living it is a different matter altogether.
No, it's meant to strengthen the point I'm trying to make - the straining of the bond to almost breaking point. diary's closest to what I'm trying to say here. When you first get to know someone, you don't really expect anything from them. But as your feelings deepen, your expectations build. And sometimes they get so impossibly great, the relationship threatens to blow.
I plead guilty to this vice :( I also know how frustrating it can be to be on the receiving end of these kinds of expectations from everyone. Sometimes you lose sight of who you really are in the mad attempt to live up the the expectations of people all around you, which by the way, you can never really do anyway. Nice, succint point you made, Missy

Why indeed? We seem to expect more from them than from ourselves. I too plead guilty.
ReplyDeleteAnd I felt hurt myself when I could not act at that level of their expectation... :(
ReplyDeleteUniversal experience obviously so why don't we learn from others and not get into the very same mess?
