Once Upon a Time

Once upon a time when I was young
and the world was still in black and white

Me and my older sister with Mum and Dad

With gran, cousins, sisters and me. The baby's my cousin Mama who's since passed on, as has my gran. My older sister's the one that's happily grinning into the camera, the toddler with a hand on her head and panties half hanging down is my younger sister, the oldest girl sitting next to gran is my cousin who now has an adorable grandtoddler of her own, and yours truly grimacing in the far right.

This must've been someone's birthday tea party. Me far right again, my two sisters and another male cousin who too has since passed on. He was attempting to rescue his 12 year old son who got into deep waters in the Tlawng river. His son survived, my cousin didn't....

  4. What memories these photographs must be stirring up for you...when the world seem to be taken care of bt mummy and daddy and responsibilities were an alien concept.

BTW, the dresses that you are wearing in the last picture look like Mount Hermon uniforms .

  7. deb, those were blissful days alright. Every little problem taken care of by an adult. Actually we spent most of our childhood with our grandparents. Due to the Mizo insurgency movement, the family fled to Shillong and while mum and dad went back to Mizoram cause of dad's govt job, we started schooling in Shillong. That explains the dresses which are probably Loreto uniforms.

  13. Yes, it was a major tragedy. He left behind 3 kids, the youngest would've been a little younger than he was in the photograph

  17. awwww.... baby J! chhooo chweeet :)

By the way, Jimmy is itching to comment "Wow, B&W photography was already invented back then" but I told him thats a very mean thing to say, so he didnt say it.

I too have tons and tons of pics when I was a baby (late 70s). Dad was the "always take a snap so that we will cherish it later" types.
