My little 10 year old dog Sentea died in the wee hours of Monday morning. He went through a lot of pain that I don't even want to think about. What always distresses me when pets die is that old claim that animals don't have souls so I'll never see him or any of our old loved furried ones ever again. And it's also so hard to take when they pass away and nobody really expresses any real sympathy. You go out and everything is the same, life goes on same as it always does while you move around with an aching heart. The lyrics of this old love song always comes to mind at times like this...
Why does the sun go on shining?
Why does the sea rush to shore?
Don't they know it's the end of the world,
`cause you don't love me anymore?
Why do the birds go on singing?
Why do the stars glow above?
Don't they know it's the end of the world?
It ended when I lost your love.
I wake up in the morning and I wonder
why ev'rything's the same as it was.
I can't understand, no I can't understand,
how life goes on the way it does.
Why does my heart go on beating?
Why do these eyes of mine cry?
Don't they know it's the end of the world?
It ended when you said good-bye.

Separation hurts.
ReplyDeleteAnd eternal separation hurts most.
But I guess sympathies from others dont help much. So I wont sympathize.
Just that... if there were to be no separation, there would be no affection in the first place. We would take things for granted.
You should not think of the 9 hrs of pain in the end that your pet had to go through, but of the 9 yrs of joy he brought in your life, and of the times when you must have talked to him, not knowing if he really understood you or not, but believing that he did (and I'm certain he did indeed).
And who says animals dont have souls (if we do). We are all animals too, by definition... just that we walk on 2 legs instead of 4.. but if I were you, I would not want to rush into meeting any of the parted souls, human or not... :)
Thank you so much :) I really appreciate the kind thoughts. But why wouldn't I want to rush into a meeting with parted souls?
ReplyDeletecos then you would yourself need to part with your loved ones on Planet Earth... simple, ain't it?
ReplyDeleteAs a dog lover myself, I share your aching loss of a good friend and companion.
ReplyDeleteI'm also dreading the moment I'll go home in a months time as my beloved dog of 11 years died last year. I haven't been home for two years and I trust that home wouldn't feel like home anymore without him :(
Having said this, my deepest and heartfelt sympathy to you at your tragic loss.
