Older and wiser, you think?

What is it with the generation gap thing? Why do we so often blithely assume that just because someone's a little younger/older than we are, they don't have the same feelings we do? Here's something I wrote late last month at a time when I was badly in need of a little comfort. And which by the way, never came.

Just because I'm older
doesn't mean I don't have feelings
that I don't hurt
that I don't ache
that I don't feel confused and overwhelmed
by forces beyond my control
just as you do.

I'm just as human as you are
just as vulnerable
just as open to pain
just as much in need of a caring word
when life hurts.

I may be older but not any wiser
than you are.

  1. Young, I left home,
and I am coming back, an old man,
    my dialect unchanged,
    my temples silver-streaked.

    Here, none of the children
    recognizes me, asking
    amidst their laughter, "Where
do you come frmo , Sir?"

    1. That's lovely, Loch. You always seem to be able to manage to come up with a brilliant piece of Oriental poetry to match sentiments I put up.

  3. Older and Clumsier. That's me. I'm forever knocking down stuff in the house. The wife's not very amused when its one of her potted plants, or even worse a part of the plant.

    1. Lol that literally made me laugh. Although, come to think of it, I probably wouldn't be very happy either if anyone knocked down part or whole of my potted plants :D But I was just thinking being clumsy with age must be a little easier than being clumsy when you're young. I mean when you're older, you can always come up with a face-saving wisecrack or something.

  5. Biggest bummer is becoming an adult (sort of) and realising all your problems are still intact-its just that the world wont let you emo-ify any longer :(

    1. That's just it...the whole world and its sister seem to think that just because you're an adult your emotions are in lock-down mode and you can't feel a thing anymore. Phooey to that.

    1. Yeah thanks, I was pretty stressed out back there but the tension's gone. Kinda weird but life's weird, I guess. And don't kick yourself, there's a good girl, you couldn't have known. And I hope things are ok for you too now.
